Divinity

She looked astonishing today, her eyes were as calm as the night sky. As I sat there, next to her with entwined hands. Our eyes were surrounded by each other, neither staring nor looking. It’s has if we were seeing our true selves. As if the world around became nonentity, yet I knew this could not be a reality. It was surely the happiest moment I have ever endured, but our divine love would not last evermore. We say such things but how can something last forever, when we grow senile and consumed.

The wind blew softly, leaves shuttered across the desolate streets. Suddenly it  grew silent. She leaned over me and from only centimeters, whispered into my ear. “I love you” as she stood and bid farewell. It was the last that I would ever see her again.

I sat there, the wind blowing ever more swiftly, evening turned to dawn. The moon’s ominous glow shone high above, watching over us, and once again I waited…
